WeChat also has the disadvantage of capping groups at 40 members. So even
if you're part of a discussion, it's much more limited than if a "Big V"
posts to Weibo. 

WeChat is the living room to Weibo's soapbox, I've heard it said. Well,
yes, if your living room is bugged. Users can only join WeChat from a cell
phone, and they are geolocated at all times. The government has a clear
surveillance advantage on WeChat: the platform feels private, but actually
provides more user information.
