Subject: new translation fund
***********************************************************

Dear all,

The Chinese Writers' Association is launching a new translation fund.
Spearheading the project is Li Jingze, a secretary at the CWA, who has
charged his underlings with getting submissions from people for works that
they're working on and works they've finished and found a publisher. I've
spoken to them and apparently anyone can submit for consideration:
translators, publishers, agents, authors. They're considering up to 800
rmb per thousand characters for funding, and it doesn't matter if you've
applied to other funds. But beware, they might arbitrarily decide who/how
much to give to a project. It's also preferred that the project have a
publisher already, but it's OK if it doesn't.

This isn't really an info page for any of this, but I've attended
meetings at the CWA and it seems like one of those cases where the money
has already been "handed down" to them by the Chinese government, and a
provisional deadline for allocation of funds for 2013 is September 30.

You can either tell me what you're working on and I can pass it on or
you can write (in Chinese) to 李朝全 of the CWA at this
email13011093615 at 163.com. State that it's concerning the translation fund
(翻译基金). I don't know why they're not being public with this right now.
Finally, they're planning this as an annual thing from now on, for Chinese
into any language.

 Alice
