Valparaiso University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant
professor to begin August, 2014.  Ph.D. and strong evidence of scholarship
in Chinese studies and language are expected.  The successful applicant
will primarily teach in the graduate Master of Arts in Chinese Studies
(MACS) program under the International Studies Department.  The hire will
be responsible for teaching language and culture classes for the
residential MACS students, some of which will be cross-listed as
upper-division undergraduate Chinese language classes.  Specialization in
Chinese culture could range from classical studies to media and pop
culture.  MACS also provides online instruction on teaching Chinese
language and culture to K-12 Chinese language teachers.  The hire should
have experience and interest in using online approaches to pedagogy. The
hire will have the opportunity to teach the K-12 Chinese language teachers
for their ³required² summer immersion in China.  To achieve tenure, the
hire will have to show a) evidence of strong teaching performance with
clear student engagement and b) a sustained, independent scholarly agenda
with a peer-reviewed publication every 2-3 years leading up to tenure.
