A rumor has been circulating on Weibo and Twitter over the past few hours
about newly articulated restrictions in higher education in China.

Supposedly, educational institutions were given an official notice from
the central government naming "Seven Silences" (七個不要講), or seven topics
that cannot be discussed in the classroom.

These seven topics are: universal values, freedom of the press, civil
society, civil rights, the Party's historical errors, an aristocratic
class, and judicial independence.

Nothing too surprising in that list! Nevertheless, if verified, this would
still be an unfortunate development. The sheer speed with which the topic
is being deleted from Weibo would seem to suggest that it is true.

"等。如此直接地干预教师的教学自由,如此明确具体地限制教师的教学内容,近年来尚属
首次。但是,连新闻自由、公民权利都不能谈,这还是大学吗?
