Dear MCLC

The online global literature journal, Asymptote, has just released its
second anniversary issue at <http://www.asymptotejournal.com/>.

Including fiction, poetry, non-fiction, criticism, and author interviews
from all across the globe, this quarter’s issue also includes a special
feature from Asymptote contributing editor, Howard Goldblatt, discussing
his 40-year relationship translating the Taiwanese author, Huang Chunming,
as well as reviews of both Sandalwood Death and Pow!

In support of this second anniversary, Asymptote has also been curating a
series of global events, some of which are taking place in, or relate to
the sinophone world.

17th January saw Asymptote’s first event in Beijing, with a sold-out panel
discussion featuring Lee Yew Leong, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of
Asymptote, Alice Xin Liu, Managing Editor of Pathlight, Ou Ning,
Editor-in-Chief, of Chutzpah! and Eric Abrahamsen of Paper Republic and
Pathlight; while in Singapore this evening, two gatekeepers of the local
literary scene, Toh Hsien Min (editor,QLRS) and Lee Wei Fen (co-editor,
Ceriph), a 2012 Singapore Literature Prize nominee (Leonard Ng) and three
of the most internationally-recognized Singaporean writers (Cyril Wong,
Alvin Pang and Desmond Kon) come together for a conversation about what a
Singaporean 'national literature' might mean.

Saturday 19th will see Howard Goldblatt discuss the challenges of
translating Mo Yan's POW! in a one-to-one conversation with Paola Iovene,
and later next month Taipei will be hosting Steve Bradbury (translator of
superstar poet Hsia Yu), Darryl Sterk (Wu Mingyi) and Lee Yew Leong (Jing
Xianghai) as they tell us about the difficulties and rewards of
"Translating Taiwan".

For information on all of Asymptote’s events please check our news section

Best wishes,
Nicholas Skidmore,
