“Envisioning Chinese Cinemas in the 21st Century: The Taiwan Symposium,”
will take place at CPT Building, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan,
on 16-18 December, 2013. This is the fourth and final event of the
international project, “Chinese Cinemas in the 21st Century: Production,

Exeter, U.K. Succeeding earlier conferences on production, consumption,
and imagination in Exeter, Amsterdam, and Singapore, the Taiwan Symposium,
co-organized by Kien Ket Lim of NCTU and partially funded by the Chiang
Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange and Taiwan’s
National Science Council, will seek to envision along with scholars around
the globe a new horizon for studying Chinese Cinemas in the 21st Century.

The Taiwan Symposium will feature Prof. David Der-wei Wang (Harvard
University) as the Keynote to speak on the topic “Of ‘Air’ and ‘Wall’:
Towards A Poetics of Screening China,” and Prof. Rey Chow (Duke
