NYCAS 2012 at SUNY New Paltz Welcomes You to Attend
New York Conference on Asian Studies
 
September 28-29, 2012 (Friday and Saturday)‹SUNY New Paltz, New York

 
Nearly 60 panels and more than 200 panelists-- discussing questions of
globalization, gender,  migration, nationalism, feminism, trade, civil
society, media, oil, identity, education, library resources, and many more
­ from experts in the arts, geography, history, political science,
religion, sociology, literature, philosophy, and economics, among other
disciplinary perspectives.

 
Presenters come from colleges and universities throughout New York State,
15 other US states, as well as from Belgium, Canada, China, England,
France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Russia, and
Singapore.

Undergraduate students may attend all panels FREE!  Just pick up your free
badge on-site at the NYCAS conference registration desk in the Student
Union Building anytime Friday or Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Ha Jin, acclaimed Chinese author of many books, recipient of the National
Book Award, and a two-time winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award, will be a
plenary speaker with a talk about his work and a reading from his most
recent short story collection, A Good Fall (2009).

Shinohara Pops! The Avant-Garde Road, Tokyo/New York--Exhibition examines
the 50-year career of Ushio Shinohara, an indispensable player in the
field of global art history and in the Tokyo avant-garde art scene.

On the Farm, a photo exhibition by Veronica O'Keefe, a SUNY New Paltz
graduate and Fulbright Scholar in China.

Performance by the Neel Murgai Ensemble, whose improvised music is rooted
in Indian classical traditions while including unique raga chamber-jazz
improvisation combining the sitar, violin, cello, and tabla.

Exhibit of latest books in Asian Studies from 20 publishers
