Castration features prominently in Wang Wenxing's novella Dragon Inn (《龙天
楼》). A translation of the novella was recently published in Shu-ning
Sciban
and Fred Edwards, eds., Endless War: Fiction and Essays by Wang Wen-hsing,
Cornell East Asia Series #158, East Asia Program, Cornell University,
2011, pp. 279-349.

You might want to check Joan Chen's film "Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl"
(Tianyu 天浴 in Chinese).

One of the main characters, a Tibetan horseman, Lao Jin, is an eunuch.
Interestingly enough, he is the only friend of Xiu Xiu, the main
character, a teenager sent-down to the countryside during the Cultural
Revolution who sells her body to all government officials visiting her. I
always thought that the fact that Lao Jin was Tibetan AND castrated was a
very interesting lead in the film plot: Tibetans are often seen as "pure"
people in recent Chinese cinema, and he is also pure for he is the only
man around Xiu Xiu who is not sexually abusing her.

Btw, the film is based on a short story by Yan Geling 严歌苓, "Celestial
Bath."

Hope it helps.

All the Best,
Vanessa
