Festival

1-8 June 2012

The series opens at 6.30pm on 1 June with a screening of new work by one
of China's most active female documentary filmmakers, When the Bough
Breaks by Ji Dan (2011). It concludes on 8 June with two films: a special
screening of Dung by Lance (2010), a Tibetan herdsman from Qinghai
Province, and the internationally acclaimed film Disorder, by Huang Weikai
(2009).

Seeing China will explore the range of contemporary practices in
documentary filmmaking in China today with screenings of recent films
selected from the Yunnan Multi Culture Visual Festival (Yunfest) catalogue.

Films in this series address contemporary issues ranging from migrant
families in Beijing to a country doctor and his clinic in rural Gansu
Province to the search for joy and life's purpose amongst art students in
urban Kunming, Yunnan Province. We are especially pleased to include in
the series two works by Tibetan filmmakers, drawn from the ³Participatory
Visual Education² strand of the Yunfest program.

The screenings are presented by the UTS China Research Centre, with
generous support from the Australian Centre on China in the World.
