Subject: director Ying Liang threatened (1)
**************************************************

Many thanks to Kevin Lee for publicizing the pressuring of Ying Liang.
This story inspires many questions.

Can anyone identify the law-enforcement organizations involved? What, for
example are the Chinese bureaucratic names which Mr. Ying expressed in
English as "the policemen from Police Department, National Security, and
National Protection"? It seems significant that although the police
department embarrassed by the case was local, nevertheless central
authorities are driving the attempt to suppress the film.

And when he reports, "When the Policemen from National Security visited me
in HK, they didn¹t use true identity, just said they from the Foreign
Office of Shanghai Government," does that mean Mr. Ying did not ask his
visitors for identification? Were their requests made in a threatening
manner? Does Mr. Ying have a lawyer? What is the nature of Mr. Ying's
current residence in Hong Kong? (i.e., what rights does he have there?)
If LEOs entered the SAR on official business but concealed their identity,
was that a violation of the Basic Law?

When they offered to "buy the copyright" of the film for "an
extraordinarily high price," was that offer made to Mr. Ying? Has he
disclosed the amount that was offered? This would be of interest to
netizens. Some would call it misuse of public funds; others no doubt
would defend it as support for the arts.
