In reading Mike Frick¹s review of the novel Dream of Ding Village, one
might come away thinking that the author, Yan Lianke, wrote it in English.
He did not. The novel was painstakingly translated from Chinese and, as a
result, the ³language² to which he refers emanates not from Yan but from
his translator, Cindy Carter.
