Subject: OCR software for Chinese (4)
*******************************************

Dear all --

The following web page, "OCR Software Guide" seems to be fairly
informative for comparisons across OCR software:

http://www.simpleocr.com/OCR_Software_Guide.asp

(The website has SimpleOCR as a freely-downloadable software. I don't know
anything about it ...)

Comparing two software I have, Readiris (mine is version 11 Pro Asian
edition) and OmniPage that is built into Adobe Acrobat Pro (mine is
version Pro 9 Extended), my own experience is that Readiris is more
accurate. In addition, scanning to PDF and doing OCR for Chinese in one
process in Adobe Acrobat Pro seems to be less accurate than taking a
scanned image and doing OCR text recognition on it. (Note: Be sure to set
for Chinese (Traditional/Simplified) if that is not the default setting
for OCR.) Presumably, the newest version of Nuance's OmniPage (version 18)
does a more accurate job in OCR recognition for Chinese ...

Best,
Marjorie
