Subject: sources on male and female crime?

Dear List members,

A colleague is preparing a comprehensive essay on "Long Term Trends in
Female and Male Involvement in Crime." Since he is not an Asia
specialist but has been asked to be inclusive of the long duree and
various regions, he is looking for recommendations for sources on China
and Japan on:

1. Statistical data on crime, particularly data broken down by gender,
and that attends to what type of crimes are being recorded at
particular moments

2. Critical essays on how crime has been recorded, categories used,
and shifts in these practices in China and Japan. Again,
recommendations for work that is attentive to gender and issues
concerning male involvement in crime and female involvement are
particularly welcome.

Any recommendations can be emailed off-list directly to Greg Smith at
gsmith at cc.umanitoba.ca

Thanks,

Tina
