FABE 5200 Appropriate Technology for Developing Countries

Definition: Appropriate technology product development for people in developing countries.

Course Description: This course is designed to provide applied knowledge of appropriate technology product development for people in developing countries. Commercializing products helps to ensure long-term sustainability, and this course will focus on such market driven solutions for community development. 3 credit hours, graded A-E.

Fall 2017: FABE 5200 will meet for lecture in Cockins Hall 312 on Mondays and Wednesdays 12:40-1:35pm and for lab in Smith 3011 (either 12:40-1:35pm OR 1:50-2:45pm – student choice). It is 3 credit hours, graded A-E. The undergrad section is class number 35792 and the grad section is class number 35787.

Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor, undergraduates who have taken ENGR 1182 or ENGR 1282, or graduate student standing.

Counting it toward your engineering degree: Undergraduate students are also advised to consult with their home Department to determine if this course will be accepted as a technical elective, an independent study, or as the first course in a capstone design course sequence. This class also counts towards the HE minor program. Graduate curricula are generally flexible, and this course number is high enough, so that this course will most certainly count toward your graduate degree.
