Good evening everyone,

Next Monday is the first of several visit days as part of the WGSS search for a faculty member in Queer & Trans Studies. Would you please circulate the attached flyer with your listservs?

Attached is the flyer for Enzo Vasquez Toral’s scholarship presentation during his visit. Zoom link, passcode information, and feedback link/QR code are all embedded in the PDF flyer. Thank you so much!

Title:
Performing Queer Indigeneity in the Andean Patron-Saint Fiesta

Abstract:

This talk traces the ways queer men and trans women have redefined ritual cross-dressing in danzas (dance-dramas) showcased in folkloric patron-saint festivals in Peru and Bolivia. Centering on masking and costuming, aspects central to danzas and sustained by Indigenous traditions and epistemologies in the Andes, underscores how queer and trans individuals perform queer indigeneity as they enact change to tradition alongside cisgender females who perform with them.
