Subject: [Folkserv] Ziying You, the Fighting Scot!
Congratulations to OSU folklore alumna Ziying You, Associate Professor of Chinese at the College of Wooster. Ziying has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the College Citizen Award, part of Wooster's new Fighting Scots Award Program. The award is described as follows:
The College Citizen Award provides an opportunity for employees to recognize a colleague for outstanding service and performance in the workplace. This award exemplifies excellence in exhibiting workplace values, including honesty, integrity, cooperation, and civility. The award recipient should be a faculty or staff member who motivates or inspires colleagues to continually improve, who has made a professional impact on a colleague, and/or who shares knowledge to help colleagues be successful. The recipient acts as a role model, an inspiration, and/or a source of support in the workplace and demonstrates a resolute interest in helping colleagues succeed.
None of us who know Ziying will be surprised to hear her described this way, but it is still remarkable that she, rather than someone who has been there thirty years, was first to receive the honor. Ziying's nominator spoke of her mentoring of students, support of colleagues, development of new courses such as "Women and Gender in East Asia" and "Anti-Asian Racism," and spearheading of the creation of a Global Asian Studies Center at the College as evidence of her "commitment and passion for transforming our community and academia."
