Hello, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Erik Shaw and I am a Cyber Software Engineer with Northrop Grumman in Cincinnati. Our site, nicknamed/sub-branded Xetron, is a leader in cyber software development within Northrop Grumman and, honestly, in the DoD and IC arenas in all spaces we compete within across the nation. We are a medium-sized site within Northrop Grumman and will be coming to Engineering Expo.

Baltimore is the headquarters for our Missions Systems Sector (roughly 1/3 of the company) and will also be coming to Engineering Expo, with far more positions available (including for Electrical Engineers as well as internship opportunities in both disciplines). Baltimore offers a rotational program for new hires, the Professional Development Program (PDP), where new employees take three six-month assignments across a variety of technical or business areas. The intent is to allow new employees to gain a broader perspective on the full range of opportunities available in Baltimore (or nationwide, potentially) and to land in the right spot (or one they liked the best) as a more permanent placement at the end of their rotations.

Northrop Grumman is a great place to work. I’ve been with the company – both Dayton and Cincinnati sites – since I graduated from OSU in June 2003. I have worked temporarily at a Baltimore site, a San Diego site, and at two different northern Virginia sites. Northrop Grumman has treated me very well in terms of development, compensation, and interesting work assignments. One other benefit that I particularly enjoy, is the option to work a 9/80 schedule. You work 9 hour days and then get every other Friday off (your other Friday is only 8 hours long). Having a three day weekend every other week is so, so nice. Also, you usually get paid for overtime (almost always at Xetron and I’m told this holds across the entire company). This is very rare for a salaried career position in industry, in my experience from job searching.

So, cutting to the chase, Baltimore is particularly interested in Electronics Club candidates (and Cincinnati may be in the future). For Baltimore, we are in need of graduating Software Engineers and Electrical Engineers (interest in RF or MMIC is a plus). Baltimore should also be a few internship positions available.

Requirements to work for Northrop Grumman as a college full-time hire or intern are:
1. Must be a U.S. citizen capable of obtaining a security clearance
2. Must have a 3.25 or higher GPA in an applicable engineering field (the GPA requirement may be overcomeable)
3. Have no future work obligations with another company

Both Cincinnati and Baltimore will be represented at a single booth at Engineering Expo, but I’d like to start conversations with interested people prior to then. So if you are interested, are a Software Engineer or Electrical Engineer, and meet the above requirements, please email me ASAP at erik.shaw at ngc.com with the following information:
1. Your graduation date (i.e. May 2018, December 2019, etc.)
2. Your GPA
3. Interest level in a Baltimore site – hardware and software (“high”, “moderate”, “none” again)
4. Whether you’d be interested in work (probably cyber work) at another site within Northrop Grumman (other than Baltimore – “possibly – depends on where” or “no interest” are fine answers for this one)

Thank you! I look forward to hearing from you!

Erik
