What are the disadvantages or embedding videos from OSU Mediasite?

Is it that you don't get variable bitrate streaming by default like YouTube? One time I noticed a video in a Canvas course was slow to load on a slower connection and had to request variable bitrate streaming be enabled from ODEE.

Youtube is apparently changing its ToS to allow it to monetize non-partner videos. From email:

YouTube has the right to monetize all content on the platform and ads may appear on videos from channels not in the YouTube Partner Program.
This could mean embedded videos start showing ads. Since OSU Mediasite isn't useful for embedding video, any thoughts?
