[Drupal] Google Maps to require API key June 11

Thanks Jason,

We are working to lower our potential hit count by changes some of our site templates. We have also setup our API key and are starting the process of reviewing our ability to sign an agreement with Google. If there is a university wide effort to create a site license or group contract, we (cancer.osu.edu / James CCC ) would be interested in being included.

All,

On June 11 (this Monday), Google will discontinue use of the maps platform without an API key. The details of this transition are spelled out in the email below from Google.

As of right now, there is no university wide contract or site license in place so units have been on their own for acquiring a key if they wish to continue using Google Maps. There has been some discussion of addressing this pain point in the future, but nothing is certain at this point.

Incidentally, while I’ve not verified myself, I’ve heard that Ohio State is NOT eligible for Google’s public programs credit.

In June 2016, we communicated that we would stop supporting keyless usage (any request that doesn’t include an API key or Client ID).
