[Drupal] Google Maps to require API key June 11

Hi Jason-

FWIW, I have started discussions with Google to explore the possibility of an enterprise agreement for Google Cloud Platform.  Google Maps is a different vertical within Google (as are AdWords/Google Analytics and Google Apps for Education) but it might be able to be included in scope.

For those of you on distcons reading this…are you affected by the Google Maps change?  It would help if I could get a sense of how many folks are affected.

All,

On June 11 (this Monday), Google will discontinue use of the maps platform without an API key. The details of this transition are spelled out in the email below from Google.

As of right now, there is no university wide contract or site license in place so units have been on their own for acquiring a key if they wish to continue using Google Maps. There has been some discussion of addressing this pain point in the future, but nothing is certain at this point.

Incidentally, while I’ve not verified myself, I’ve heard that Ohio State is NOT eligible for Google’s public programs credit.

The hostmaster got a reminder email from Google regarding the upcoming change to the Google Maps API. He asked us to send a reminder out to all the development teams. We have done our best to determine who the administrator of this domain is, and we believe you may be that person. What will begin happening on June 11th

In June 2016, we communicated that we would stop supporting keyless usage (any request that doesn’t include an API key or Client ID).
