WoolfNotes.com: Virginia Woolf’s Reading and Research Notes Online
I’d like to record my appreciation for all the wonderful comments that have been posted here about WoolfNotes.com. We are delighted that it has been so well received, and is fulfilling its aim of making an open resource available to the community of Woolf scholars.

On a personal note I have two people in particular to thank. The WoolfNotes project would not have made any sense without Brenda Silver’s original research on the reading notebooks. The website contains, as background material, both the introduction to her 1983 book, and her reflections in 2023 on how it all came about. These recent thoughts clarify the sheer doggedness with which she pursued the information, and the many years it took her to put it all together. I am so glad that we have been able to realise my conception of the website as a space juxtaposing the manuscripts with Brenda Silver’s commentary. This brings me to my second vote of thanks. The WoolfNotes technical director, Gilly Furse, has done an amazing job with this website, as many of you have said. Much of this was done on a pro bono basis. Gilly spent some years developing things at Microsoft and she is an IT guru as well as a (in her own words) “kick ass researcher”. She is also my sister and we got the benefit of her time and skills for next to nothing, for which I am very grateful. (The Woolf estate asked me “how did you get her on your budget?”!)

I am incredibly pleased that WoolfNotes has now found its “forever home” at King’s College London. It will be taken forward there by Clara Jones, an old collaborator of mine, and Anna Snaith, both of whom will be known to you.
