Dear fellow Woolfians,
I hope this message finds you well. I am thrilled to announce that this December, I will be hosting Vara Neverow for a lecture titled "Virginia Woolf, Money, and the Oldest Profession for Women."
Date: Saturday, December 28th, 2024
Time: 7:00 PM (Turkey time) (Here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/__;!!KGKeukY!1_HiqsAaL_wCqhPgd1BuwG4kzisO88h_ARYrBwdNCWJHKqh3VVZCL1RQoRVnHyneBg9fUjcEfOsnanN4RtbDvu0cVFoyyrjN$> is the link for World Time Buddy)
In her talk, Vara will explore how Woolf consistently defends those working in the "world's oldest profession for women" while also cautioning them about the dangers of falling prey to the same corrupt ambitions that men exhibit in these professions.

I know that Vara needs no introduction for most Woolfians, but here is her bio in case you want to jog your memory.
Vara Neverow is a professor of English and Women’s and Gender Studies at Southern Connecticut State University where she has taught for more than 35 years. Her scholarship focuses primarily on Virginia Woolf. Having organized the second Annual Conference on Virginia Woolf held in 1992, she also served as President of the International Virginia Woolf Society for two terms. She has served as the editor of the Virginia Woolf Miscellany since 2003 and was invited by Mark Hussey to write the Introduction and annotations for the 2008 Harcourt edition of Jacob’s Room. Dr. Neverow’s most recent published scholarly work includes the invited article “Virginia Woolf, Money and ‘world’s oldest profession,’” published in the Brazilian journal ITINERÁRIOS – Revista de Literatura (2022), and she has just finished a chapter on Woolf’s references to sex trafficking and prostitution in the context of transnationality. Dr. Neverow also has co-edited three collections of essays: Virginia Woolf: Twenty-First-Century Approaches (2014); Virginia Woolf: Critical and Primary Sources (2021); and the Edinburgh Companion to Virginia Woolf and Contemporary Global Literature (2023).
I look forward to Vara's insightful talk and to seeing you all there.
Wishing you a happy holiday season!
Warm wishes,
Demet
