[Vwoolf] To the Lighthouse: edition with UK text distributedin US?

To be honest, I responded to Bechdel’s cover of To the Lighthouse in the same way as stringsOf Light when I followed Edward’s link. I’m not a fan of comics per se, though I admire Bechdel’s work, but I think this cover offers a nice take that might engage a modern young reader. That reader would discover from page one that they aren’t reading a graphic novel or anything like one—and that it’s not going to include any reference to bros, in case they expected any.

I may be prejudiced in favour of this cover by my constant irritation at the many contemporary (and older, for that matter) covers of works by authors I admire and enjoy that are (apparently obliviously) historically inaccurate, or terrible distortions of the characters and action of the text, or both. At least Bechdel seems to know what she’s illustrating!

How true – publishers often reprint books with new covers, just, it seems, in their rush for profits, to lure the unwary into buying them twice. The bastards. I admit I have done this. Personally – and snobbily – I think the Bechdel cover is

Personally – and snobbily – I think the Bechdel cover is a terrific cartoon, but a totally inappropriate cover for TL. As well, it has a good chance of luring unwary buyers into boredom and frustration, who haven’t read the article below.

And in case anyone hasn't seen the Penguin cover, here it is:

Lily thinks "Whatever, bros." on the cover, but not, I think, in the book.
