[Vwoolf] Undigested Cats

The little brother and sister in Julia Stephen's "Cat's Meat" want to be 
a "crossing sweeper" and a "cat's meat girl" so their mother will pay 
more attention to them.  " We thought if we were really poor children, 
we /should/ see you because you are always with the poor," little Maggie 
explains to her mother, Lady Margaret, when the they are found.  And 
brother Bob says, "And we thought we would go to the suburbs . . . for 
you are always there."  As Libby Steele says in her introduction to the 
stories, both children and parents have lessons to learn.
