Hi Trudi and Sarah,

Trudi, thanks for sharing the review--thoughtful, engaging and justly angry.

Sarah, as you say, there's no reason that other actors can't attempt to perform these roles (I think one has to look askance at the director for choosing them rather than blaming the performers for their deficiencies).

I've seen two performances of the play (the first with Eileen Atkins and Vanessa Redgrave that was performed in Stamford, CT; the second in at a tiny theatre in the Berkshires; both performances were quite engaging though Atkins and Redgrave were far more gifted than the other two actors who interpreted the play).

Thanks, Vara and Trudi, for these reviews. Ellie Mitchell's was the most insightful, although probably painful to read for anyone involved in the film. Odd that opinions of Elizabeth Debicki's performance vary so widely. Let's face it, it's unlikely that anyone will 'do' Virginia as well as Dame Eileen. But I defend their right to try.
