Rather than use Rimmon-Kenan’s distinction between extradiegetic vs. intradiegetic and homodiegetic vs. heterodiegetic, I have decided to employ the simpler terminology used by Mieke Bal and refer to character-focalizers or narrator-focalizers (or, in some cases, simply narrators).”
