Just another vote for Dalloway Day, rather than Dallowday.

I have spoken to him as well* and said we had come to a majority decision on this list that Dallowday/Dallowday Day would be the third Wednesday in June. I am aware that not everyone agreed with this, and I'm sure we will never get 100% consensus, but of those who answered my post, more said the third Wednesday than the second. And I think that everyone who replied said a Wednesday rather than a particular mid-June date. This year, the third Wednesday is 20 June. as it was in 1923. The vote was split about the name, which I don't think matters as much.

In the UK, the VWSGB is getting together with Waterstones, as last year, to arrange a walk, discussion and talk on Sat 16 June (yes, I know it's Bloomsday, but I don't think that will affect London so much as Dublin). When we have tidied up the details, it will be announced on the new VWSGB website and Facebook page, and by Waterstones as well. I also have it on good authority (that's you, Alli!) that Monks House are holding an event on the day itself, Wed 20 June, and the details will appear on the Monks House page of the National Trust website in due course.

If you have something to say about Dallowday, the IVWS or another VW society, please let me or Paula know, as I mentioned to the journalist as many VW societies as I knew about and he seemed interested. I told him he would need to speak to someone at the IVWS, but didn't know who would be most appropriate. It would be great if we could help him make his New Yorker piece thoroughly researched. Also I would like to promote any Dallowday events, wherever they are in the world, as I'm sure would Paula.

*I mentioned a few names, among which was yours, Paula, but said I'd check with the people before passing on their email addresses. He seems to have found you on his own -- well, he is a journalist!

A New Yorker writer contacted me with questions about Dalloway Day, as he is considering writing about it for the magazine. I've seen the discussion on the list regarding the date/day and am wondering if we have a consensus regarding the official day. Will it be the second Wednesday in June? The third Wednesday in June? Or on a particular date in June? (Although that seems not to be favored.) And how will we mark it? A party? A walk? Both? I'd appreciate any thoughts you care to share. It would be wonderful to see a piece about this in the New Yorker.
