[Vwoolf] GREEK VERBS ENDING IN --MI

In VW’s review of “Lysistrata” (1910), she writes:

“Democracy will not tolerate the formality of the verbs in —mi.” (Essays 6, p. 373)

Following a lead from Emily Dalgarno, I have discovered a verse from 1926:

OTHER UNIVERSITIES

Afar from here I see them fly
When none may learn his verbs in mi
They get degrees in making jam
At Liverpool and Birmingham!
