[Vwoolf] An interesting pillar box

Interesting for  a couple of reasons:

(1) Unless it’s been moved, then Lytton Strachey surely used it when living with his family at 67 Belsize Park Gdns (in the background), from 1907 to 1913.

(2) It is one of the “anonymous” pillar boxes (no crown, royal cipher or wording), made between 1879 and 1887. Although the standard work on pillar boxes lists it as one of the later ones, I think it’s one of the earlier ones (between 1879 and 1883), as the aperture is near the top (the slot was then lowered to prevent letters becoming trapped out of sight inside the top of the box).
