[Vwoolf] Virginia Woolf Query

Dear list members,

I have a query in relation to Virginia Woolf's work. I remember reading a
passage, where she discusses the precise documenting of architectural
changes to country houses by aristocratic men. If I remember correctly, the
inference is that men have documented their goings-on over the centuries in
minute detail - including the minutiae of extensions built onto mansions,
etc.

I'd really appreciate your help with finding this. All answers gratefully
