VW quotes several well-worn estate agents’ phrases: “gimcrack red houses and raw roads and meaningless decorations and ‘constant hot water’ and ‘inside sanitation’ and ‘superb views of the sea’.”

It is interesting, however, to turn to “The Times”, Monday, 23 March 1925, p. 1, col. d, halfway down the column.  There you will find five adverts: the first has ‘superb views’, the second ‘inside sanitation’, and the fifth ‘constant hot water’.
