Burial Sites is an artist’s book and social practice project considering how burial landscapes reflect cultural rituals around death, mourning processes, and community politics. The book is a project of accumulation, grappling with the task of documentation and the archive through images of monuments for the dead.  Copies will be available for purchase at the event.  Lydia Smith (she/her) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Columbus, OH. Her practice focuses on the archive as a phenomenological site for understanding the remnants of the past and its links to our cultural understanding of death, time, and place. Smith received an MFA from The Ohio State University with a Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Folklore in 2022. She is currently a lecturer in OSU’s Department of Art and is a recipient of the GCAC Dresden Residency Exchange Fellowship to be completed in summer of 2025.
