[STEM-funding] OCIO Learning Technology Impact Grant and iTunes U Faculty Bootcamp; US EPA GRO undergraduate and STAR graduate fellowships

*1) OSU OCIO Learning Technology Impact Grant:* The Office of the Chief
Information Officer has announced its next round of Learning Technology
Departmental Impact Grants (http://go.osu.edu/IG). From an email from
Robert Griffiths:

Consider this grant an opportunity to create an exemplar key or large
course for your department. Recipients are provided up to 200 hours of
Learning Technology expertise ($16,000 value) and $15,000 (minimum 1:2,
non-LT:LT, matching) to extend learning technology use that increases
student engagement, facilitates greater instructor efficiency, or enables
anytime/anyplace learning.

Open Q&A sessions are 11:00am-12:00pm, October 16, and 12:30-1:30pm,
October 24, in 060 Science and Engineering Library.

Applications due November 5.

*2) OSU OCIO iTunes U Faculty Bootcamp:* From an email from the Digital
Union's Liv Gjestvang:
Ohio State's Digital First initiative, in the OCIO, is partnering with the
College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Medicine, and the College of
Social Work to offer a second iTunes U Faculty Bootcamp December 12-14,
2012 at Apple's Headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Selected faculty participants from these colleges will work closely with
Apple's iTunes U team, as well as instructional design and technical
experts from OSU, to adapt an existing or create a new online course to be
published in January 2013. Successful applicants will need to provide a
collection of their own digital materials (or additional materials for
which they have copyright clearance) to organize into an iTunes U course.

digitalfirst.osu.edu. To learn more about the program, consider attending
an information session on October 10th from 1:30pm-2:00pm or October 11th
from 12:00pm-12:30pm in Baker Systems Engineering 285.

*3) US EPA GRO undergraduate fellowships:* The EPA has announced the latest
competition for Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) undergraduate
fellowships (http://epa.gov/ncer/rfa/2013/2013_gro_undergrad.html). From
the announcement:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is offering undergraduate
fellowships for bachelor level students in environmental fields of study.
The deadline for receipt of applications is December 5, 2012.  Subject to
availability of funding and other applicable considerations, the Agency
plans to award approximately 40 new fellowships in the summer of 2013.
 Eligible students will receive support for their junior and senior years
of undergraduate study and for an internship at an EPA facility during the
summer of their junior year.

The fellowship provides up to $20,700 per academic year of support and
$8,600 of support for a three-month summer internship. Applications due
December 5.

*4) US EPA STAR graduate fellowships:* From the EPA Science To Achieve
Results (STAR) Fellowships For Graduate Environmental Study announcement (
http://epa.gov/ncer/rfa/2013/2013_star_gradfellow.html):

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is offering Graduate
Fellowships for master’s and doctoral level students in environmental
fields of study. Subject to availability of funding and other applicable
considerations, the Agency plans to award approximately 80 new fellowships
in the late summer of 2013. Master's level students may receive support for
a maximum of two years. Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of
three years, usable over a period of five years.

The fellowship provides up to $42,000 per year of support. Applications due
November 27.
