Hi folks!

Penn State is offering an info session on how to apply to graduate programs in Applied Linguistics. We'd love for undergrads interested in applying to PhDs to attend to break down some barriers in application conventions, especially for minoritized folks. It's Friday, October 18 via Zoom. Flyer attached, please distribute widely.

We are also doing a search for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics. Applied Linguistics is a very general field concerned with language in any applied contexts, so I encourage anyone who does sociolinguistics or in language in any applied contexts to apply. Link here<https://psu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/PSU_Academic/job/Penn-State-University-Park/Visiting-Assistant-Professor-in-Applied-Linguistics_REQ_0000060663-1> and excerpt below.

The Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor, to start August 2025.

A Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Educational Linguistics, or related fields is required by the appointment date. The position is a non-tenure-track, term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

The candidate must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research potential and a record of teaching excellence. The Visiting Assistant Professor will be expected to teach courses primarily in the Undergraduate Applied Linguistics Major, TESOL Minor, and the M.A. in TESOL, with the possibility of teaching other graduate courses offered by the Department of Applied Linguistics as needed. This position will include resident and normal university service. The teaching load during the academic year is two courses per semester. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Best,
