[Somean] Update: possible brief visit from Aris Clemons tomorrow

Hey folks,

It looks like Aris may join us for just the first half hour of So Mean tomorrow. She’ll have had almost no warning about this so she’s not presenting or leading us in anything, just saying hi. I figure we’ll do a full round of introduce yourself and say a little about your research and then maybe you guys can ask her a couple of questions or if she’s also intrigued about processing we’ll start that conversation. At 11 Anna will whisk her away to SPPO and we’ll talk about the readings.

Ok, I’m not going to try to assign people to papers because the paper choices aren’t really structured in a useful way for that. So it’s a free for all. Please read all of the abstracts, then pick one paper to read fully. Note that this paper:
Wenzel, Zetocha, & Ferraro, 2007 - Depth of processing and recall of threat material in fearful and nonfearful individuals
describes exposing people with blood or spider phobias to words related to those things, in a relatively low key way.

We’ll try to triangulate and develop a grand theory of depth of processing in sociolinguistic cognition together. It’ll be fun!
