[Somean] Sociolinguistic meaning discussion group

[Kathryn Campbell-Kibler]

The Sociolinguistic Meaning discussion group (So Mean) will meet 10:30 -12 on Fridays in the stadium, room 112B to discuss the linking of language forms to socio-indexical meanings. Members will workshop research in progress, dry-run talks and read and discuss recent published work. All are welcome to attend.

The first meeting, this Friday, Aug 28, will be a planning meeting. If you intend to attend regularly but cannot make this week, feel free to email me with thoughts or suggestions for potential topics.

Note on location: For those of you unfamiliar with the Linguistics Department’s new location, we can be reached through a doorway between gates 22 and 24 in the stadium. This route is stairs only. The other way in has an elevator, but I haven’t been in that way yet, so I’m not sure what the gates near it are. Less than 22, but not a lot less, would be my guess.
