It would be good if we could send some So Meaners to this, if anyone is
able.

Subject: [Lingosu] Workshop on Text Processing -- Social Psychology Style

In case any Linguistics grad students are interested in seeing how the
Social Psych folks think about analyzing texts using automated programs.

Best,

Laura

Subject: Ostrom scholar workshop

Hi everyone,
Next Friday, January 13th from 12:30-2:30 we will be having the Ostrom
workshop.  It will probably be held in LZ 120 (I'll remind you again next
week with the location verified).  As always, lunch will be from
Adriatico's.  RSVP by Tuesday, January 10.  Here is a description of what
we'll be covering:

Language Analysis Workshop by Jamie Pennebaker.  We are in the midst of a
language analysis revolution.  For the first time, researchers in
psychology, history, medicine, and other areas are able to track the
thinking, emotions, and behaviors of people around the world as it is
occurring.  The tools for this revolution come from Google, computational
linguists, psychologists, and other disciplines.  In this workshop, we
will discuss ways to analyze the words people use in natural
conversation, open-ended questionnaires, blogs, tweets, emails, books,
and letters.  Although part of the workshop will focus on the text
analysis program LIWC, other approaches will also be discussed.

Jamie has also requested that we include graduate students from other
areas at the workshop.  We won't have enough space to send out a blanket
invitation, so if you know of grad students who are specifically
interested in language analysis, please forward this email to them.

Happy new year!
Brittany
