To our fellow farmers and our academic friends, , please consider this
proposal and share it with anyone that may be interested.
Will Allen Farms is willing to enter into cooperatives with farmers that
will commit some of their water to raising yellow perch as a food fish. We
would sell the fingerlings to the farmers at a price that would give
incentive. (currently the price for fingerlings range from .09 to .12 an
inch) These are feed trained fingerlings coming from land based, bio-secure
hatchery. They have been successfully integrated to ponds and land based
systems throughout the Midwest
The farmer may sell these fish as stock fish as the market may dictate,
however any fish that grow to maturity (150 grams or better) Will Allen
Farms will buy back as food fish. The price we will pay will be driven by
market, however, we feel we can offer no less than $1.33 per fish (approx.
$4.05 a pound for ungutted fish)
We have markets for the fish in the Milwaukee and Chicago area, and have a
solid distribution network. We have the ability to process the fish as
well, thus the fish can be sent to us on ice/slurry, thus eliminating some
of the interstate transfer issues
We have a mandate from our educational partner to promote and develop the
Yellow perch as a food fish for the market. In addition, Will Allen Farms
is dedicated to reinvigorating this high protein fish that is a staple on
most menus on the Great Lakes
Please consider our thoughts as genuine and assist us in furthering the
discussion.
With best regards,
Thomas H. Schmitt

Subject: Will Allen Farms-Yellow Perch Fingerlings
Good Day,
The following is a little about us:
Will Allen Farms has partnered with Bell Aquaculture and UW Milwaukee School
of Freshwater Science to produce yellow perch fingerlings nearly year
round. At this time, we have nearly 800,000 fry from an October 1, 2014
hatch. They are currently 9 grams. We have an additional 50,000 to 60,000
Fingerlings from the April hatch. They are about 6- inches with weights in
excess of 70 grams
We are hoping to create relationships that will allow hatcheries to grow
Perch year round. We intend to only concentrate on producing the
fingerlings
We employ industry experts in operations, hatchery, husbandry, grow out,
nutrition and biological monitoring. Our state-of-the-art, land-based RAS
facility uses cutting edge technology
Our yellow perch fingerlings are farm raised in a controlled
bio-secure environment. We do not employ the use of hormones or antibiotics
in our grow out process. We are looking to create relationships with
hatcheries that already have markets and would like to be considered in your
purchasing needs in the future.
I would like to discuss our hatchery with you. Please call to discuss at
your convenience
Sincerely,
Thomas H. Schmitt, CPA
