Experimental Details

Review the window notes and any associated equipment guides for additional details.

STO

TA demo kits include a jar of sand for smothering a Mg fire if it gets out of control. To be clear, the jar of sand should only be used in an emergency. If the TA cannot find the magnesium strips, they should check the cart, the hood, and the box containing the other items needed for the demonstration.

IHT

Cups and lids will be in the red dispensers by the balances. We’re going to use quite a few weigh boats, cup and lids- so be sure to keep a close eye on these. Additional cups and lids are available in the same cabinet as the 15-mL Falcon tubes- this is the cabinet under the balances closest to Hood A.

SAL

Additional colorless empty microcentrifuge tubes are stored behind the marker boards. Only emptied and rinsed centrifuge tubes should be placed in the blue bucket. Blue buckets should be swapped out during waste runs if they are more than half full. If you see any leftover tubes of solids on the reagent carts when doing your checks, please give them to the window- window people, please put them in the “partial unknown sets” bin.

EMS

These will be set up on the bench beside Hood A. Replacement parts are available in the window. The power supplies and discharge tubes are new, but the spectrometers are the same.

GAS

It’s ok for students to ask for an additional package of Alka-Seltzer at the window for Part C. Extra tubing for the gas collection apparatus will be available in the window. The barometers in each room are near the thermostat (on the same wall as hood B). There are extra ring stands in each room between the ADA sink and Hood A.

Other Information

Back Door

Be sure you are closing the back door after dumping your waste. It has been found left open multiple times recently… this is not ok. If this issue persists, we will remove the magnetic door catch.

Refilling the Window Cart and Shelves

We’re updating the “REFILL THE WINDOW CART” task to be “REFILL THE WINDOW CART & SHELVES”. In addition to refilling the window cart, we’d also like you to top off any bins, shelves, drawers, etc. in the window that are getting below half full. Many items have cardboard boxes with refill materials. These boxes are included on THE Windex.

One-A-Day Options

Please remember that your menu of one-a-day options is based on the daily sheet, not what is written in dry erase marker on the board. Counting something not currently listed on the daily sheet as a one-a-day option must be approved by a Prep Lab Staff member.

Sexual Misconduct Prevention Training

The office of civil rights has released the sexual misconduct prevention training for this fiscal year. Everyone that reports to me has until the end of fall break to complete it and submit their certificate. Student employees should submit their certificates on Carmen via the Prep Lab Forum<https://osu.instructure.com/courses/49925/assignments/5007053>. Staff should send their certificates to me via email. If you see a message that says the training is not available to you, please let me know. This is due by 11:59 pm tonight.

MJ Out this Week

MJ will be out this week. If you notice any solutions need to be made, or the carboys are getting low, please let myself, Linda, Sarah, or Emma know.
