Hello, friends!

Up next is Week 12! We’ve only got 11 more days of gen chem lab remaining!

CAR
TAs will be picking up glucose test strips from the windows. These are light and moisture sensitive, so they are stored in the desiccator (big acrylic box on counter).

QUL
We’re expecting to go through tons of test tubes and small corks this week. Each lab has a significant stash of corks and test tubes behind their white boards. TAs will be picking up liquid unknowns from the window.

WST
pH meters…Students and pH meters don’t always get along. pH meters with probes are on the reagent carts.  If a student claims their pH meter is “broken”, they should have their TA try to calibrate it before bringing it to the window for an exchange. Sophie and Alec will have replacements in the windows.  “Broken” meters should be placed in the labeled bin so that one of the prep lab staff can check them and make any necessary repairs. Extra wetting caps are available in each window, these are the little bottles that the probe tips are stored in. We also have extra storage solution, the liquid that goes into the wetting cap, in each window if needed.

BAR
The UV-Vis spectrometers are behind the white boards in each room. Cuvettes and volumetric flasks will be on the reagent cart and should be returned to the cart after use. Be prepared to replace the volumetric flasks, they occasionally get broken.

TM1
We’ll have a UV-Vis setup in 330 to connect to Alec’s iPad. If something isn’t working, let me know. The code to unlock the iPad is celeste145.

Ohio Science Olympiad- Volunteers Still Needed!

We need volunteers for the Ohio Science Olympiad State Tournament.<https://ohso.osu.edu/tournaments/state-tournament> that will be held on Saturday, April 27th. Chemistry and Biochemistry will host 4 events in our gen chem lab spaces, so we need a lot of people who can help us manage everything. If you decided to volunteer, you will help us with proctoring, grading, making sure the lab rooms are clean after all participants leave. For your participation, you will receive a free T-shirt, a boxed lunch (usually a sandwich, chips, and a cookie), and get to spend part of a Saturday with Tyler, Alec, and Sophie in Celeste! There will also likely be other snacks and entertaining conversation. Shift switches and call offs

Please remember that a covered shift is not official until an email is sent to the prep lab staff and the person covering the shift is cc’d. Please also send us a message if you are not going to make it to your shift. It helps us a lot to know for sure who wont be around.

Spill kit swaps

Moving forward, please be sure to process any spill kits you bring downstairs. Our goal is for all of the spill kits under the carboy table to be ready for use.
