Blue and yellow seem to be an appropriate color scheme for an OSU trashcan :) Ice The ice maker on the second floor is not yet operational. It should be later this week. Until then, we should continue to provide ice in coolers. Coolers should be filled from the ice machine on the first floor of Evans lab. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE CONSUME THE ICE FROM ANY ICE MACHINE IN CELESTE OR EVANS. Monday will be the final day of CPC in 1210! It?s been a while since we?ve had to monitor the CPC stills, so please be sure to use your 30-minute timer and check the stills regularly if you are assigned a window shift tomorrow. If something on the Daily Sheet looks funny, i.e. I?ve listed the wrong lab to gather, let one of us know (I too make mistakes). As always, please review the window notes when you start your window shift. I?ve highlighted some key items for the next round of experiments below: MML The MML model kits are on the bottom of the reagent carts. PbI Solid reagents will be handed out from the windows. Vacuum tubing is in a labeled drawer in each lab on the same wall as Hood A. It may wind up on the reagent cart depending on how things go. We?ll be using the vacuum ports for this experiment; the TAs do not need to turn the pump on or off- it will take care of itself. We will be using the ovens; they open by pulling the bottom of the handle up towards the ceiling- no rotating required. BAR The UV-Vis spectrometers are in the large metal cabinets in the balance rooms. The metal cabinets should already be unlocked, and do not need to be relocked throughout the week. Cuvettes and volumetric flasks will be on the reagent cart. Be prepared to replace the volumetric flasks, they occasionally get broken. SYN Day 2 All the materials and equipment needed for this one will be in the room. This is a continuation of Day 1, so it should go smoothly. XUF Day 1 Pennies will be distributed from the window. Everything else will be available in the lab room. We will not be using the XRF instrument this semester, the XRF data will be provided to the TAs for distribution to the students. Charging for Supplies It seems that every semester at least one student has the misconception that we will charge them for various items. I believe someone thought last week that we would charge them for ice. In a past semester someone thought we would charge them for a lost stir bar. We do not charge students for anything. We encourage students and TAs to let us know when things are broken or lost so they can be replaced. Our goal is creating and promoting a positive learning environment, and everyone is part of this effort. XUF Day 2 Alec and Sophie will be moving a large instrument into Hood A of 330 on Monday evening. It will include a tank of acetylene. While the instrument is in this hood, the orange bucket will temporarily be placed under the hood. Daily Sheet Task Modifications- Effective Immediately Cart Changes- for this semester we will be modifying the cart change assignment. This semester if you are assigned a cart change, you will only be putting up the new chemicals listed on the gather sheet and collected in the New Gather. You will not be removing anything from the cart. Remove Old Chemicals- This is a new assignment. The Daily Sheet will indicate which rooms you are going to visit and which experiment?s chemicals you will be removing. Start by grabbing a gather sheet for the appropriate experiment. Then, grab a cart lined with tubs, and head upstairs to the assigned rooms. Only remove the chemicals associated with the experiment you were assigned to remove. After you have visited each assigned room, head back downstairs and leave the cart of chemicals in 140/150 CE. Empty Buckets/Cans- Often in the evenings we do not have time to empty all the waste buckets and cans that were collected before its time to close. This assignment is to simply empty out any white cans, orange buckets, or green buckets that were collected and have waste in them. Proper PPE must be worn. Other Important Information: Games, Movies, TV, Headphones, etc. Remember, you are not permitted to play games and/or watch videos while on the clock. You are also not permitted to wear headphones or earbuds. Cart Moves As a reminder, Cart Moves are listed under the window schedule section of the Daily Sheet. A person will be assigned to each time and floor. It is possible there are no moves scheduled for an assigned time. If there are the assigned person is responsible for completing the cart moves and initialing the mini Daily Sheet (in your window) when done. If no moves are scheduled, the assigned person must initial the mini Daily Sheet (in your window) indicating the cart moves sheet was checked. Shift Switches I want to be sure we are all on the same page with shift switches. If you know you are going to miss a shift, please reach out to the other students to see if anyone can take the shift from you.
