PPG & QUL Please be sure to place the reagents for PPG (this week) and QUL (week after spring break) in the indicated containers. PPG chemicals go in the yellow buckets. QUL chemicals go in the small square bins in aisle 11. When doing a cart check for these experiments, just gather all the used reagents and place out a new set. There is no need to check each individual bottle. Spring Break The prep lab will have limited hours over spring break. We will be working on packing up materials in rooms 230 and 250. You are not expected to maintain your schedule during spring break. If you are around and would like some hours, please drop by. Monday- Closed Tuesday-Friday 8:30 am- 2:30 pm Science Olympiad The Ohio Science Olympiad is being held on April 29th. We will be hosting 5 events in our spaces and need lots of volunteers to help us manage everything. You may be thinking ?what?s in it for me?!??. The answer is tons! You are entitled to a free T-shirt, a boxed lunch (usually a sandwich, chips, and a cookie), weekend time in Celeste, and extra (Saturday) time with Tyler. There will also likely be other snacks and entertaining conversation. If you?re interested in joining us, please complete this google doc AND the Science Olympiad Volunteer Form. Summer and Fall Positions Unless you indicate otherwise, I will assume you are not planning to work for us over the summer but will return in Fall 2023. If you plan to work for us over the summer, or will not be returning in the fall, let me know as soon as you have made this decision. We have been working with the Department on establishing a slightly improved pay rate and a scheme for yearly pay increases. More information will be shared when this is finalized. Cleaning Dirty Tubs and Trays Please remember to wear your goggles and lab coat when completing this task. While the sink may be behind the blue line, the task itself necessitates the use of proper PPE. Pay Rates & Application The Lab Supervisors and I have been working with the Department to increase your pay rate. We are still waiting on final approval of the terms we negotiated. We are also hoping to give a small pay increase at the beginning of the second and third years of employment. For those that know anyone that might be interested, the application should be up soon. Summer and Fall Positions We will need student employees over the summer. By default, I am assuming that you are not planning to work in the prep lab over the summer and will return for the fall semester unless you tell me otherwise. Those that are returning for the fall may now start scheduling on Teams. We will use the same plan as we did for the spring: Accessing the AU23 Schedule Open your OSU email account in a web browser. Each person is required to schedule a minimum of 12 hours per week with a maximum of 20. Shifts must be at least 2 hours (4 consecutive 30-minute time blocks) or longer. Other arrangements are possible but must be pre-approved by me. Please keep in mind that little flexibility will be given for last minute call offs and permanent switches once the semester begins. So, please choose your spots carefully. Be sure to account for any second session classes you may have enrolled in.
