With all of this in mind, our hours for next week will be the following: Monday (10/10) 7:30-6:00 Tuesday (10/11) 8:00-6:00 Wednesday (10/12) 8:00-6:00 Thursday (10/13) CLOSED Friday (10/14) CLOSED If you plan on missing your shift on Tuesday or Wednesday, please try to find a replacement. If you don?t normally have a shift on Tuesday or Wednesday and would like some hours, please drop by. Please note that it?s great to use the GroupMe to find a replacement for your shift(s), but you should still email preplabstaff at lists.osu.edu once a replacement is found. This keeps all the prep lab staff informed. It may seem like we have an abundance of extra students around during certain times. This is strategic. We have waves of tasks that need to be completed, and the need to always have hands available for emergencies. Please let us know when you are stepping out to grab food or take a phone call. When you need to unlock rooms, you will get your key from the key safe. Operation instructions are on the front of the safe. Your initial PIN is the last 4 digits of your ID number, the short number on your BUCKID. You will be prompted to change your PIN after your first sign-in. Remove a key: 1- Enter your PIN, tap enter button 2- Open the door 3- Tap desired key on screen 4- Pull on black peg to remove key 5- Close door Return a key: 1- Enter your PIN, tap enter button 2- Open door 3- Insert black peg into correct spot 4- Close door Key usage is logged automatically. You all should be very proud of yourselves. Starting tomorrow, we will be deducting 0.5 corrective action points for missed cart moves. This caused a delay in the students being able to complete their experiment. It seems in this situation there were multiple contributing factors: 1. The individuals doing the cart check were swapping individual bottles instead of the entire bin. preventative measure: For experiments that use several reagents, and the reagents are all contained in a small bin or bucket, the whole bucket/bin should be swapped. Essentially, when doing a cart change for QUL, all bottles should be put back in the bin, and a new bin is swapped for the old one. 1. The TAs in these rooms did not notify the appropriate people in a timely manner. preventative measure: TA?s could be reminded to notify their Head TA, the window, or an ALS of missing or incorrect materials as soon as possible. I would like to reiterate that in the Prep Lab our goal is not to have a zero defects operation, this is unrealistic. Our goal is to prevent issues from reaching the students, and to respond to them as quickly as possible to avoid delay.
