Hello All,

I would like to introduce Tyler Weaver as the New Prep Lab Manager.  I am extremely excited that Tyler will be leading the Prep Lab.  He is an integral member of the General Chemistry Team and was my biggest help/supporter while working for General Chemistry.  His knowledge of the UG program is top notch.

His first official day will be next Monday, but he has a previously scheduled commitment and will return on March 21st.  Please join me in welcoming Tyler to his new post.

The prep lab will be open from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next week.

We are assuming most of you will be unavailable (we encourage you to take some time to rest). Therefore, we will only schedule students that tell us they would like hours over spring break. The deadline to notify us is 5:00pm tomorrow night (Friday).

This is a lengthy email, but it contains several policy reminders and changes which are effective immediately. Please be sure to read this message in its entirety.


  1.  Employees are required to arrive at the time listed on the schedule. Repeat tardiness will necessitate a discussion with me. Please review your listed times on the Sp22 Student Schedule.xlsx<https://buckeyemailosu.sharepoint.com/:x:/s/GeneralChemistryPrepLab/ETy70W4Fg3VEh3Kpd69sSnMBQrbK76wffxZRhINkHSl-JQ?e=2QAbLM>, let me know if we need to make any adjustments.
  2.  You will no longer need to sign in and out on paper. Please only use the timesheet function on Workday.
  3.  Weekly time sheets should be submitted no later than noon the following Monday.
  4.  All HR/scheduling questions and concerns should be sent directly to me. Moving forward, I will be approving all timesheets.
  5.  Emails about last minute absences should be sent to the prep lab staff email list (preplabstaff at osu.edu<mailto:preplabstaff at osu.edu>). This will inform all necessary parties.
  6.  Each student will be provided with two name badges. One to wear on their lab coat, and one to wear when not using their lab coat. Let us know if you would like the name to be adjusted. (We ran out of label tape before break, so the rest of the badges will be made on Monday).

Hi All,

I wanted to provide some quick clarification on Timesheets.

As I mentioned Sunday night, you will no longer fill out a paper timecard in 145 CE. Please log your time in Workday in the same manner you have been using all semester. You may find it helpful to log your time on Workday each day before or after leaving. You can also copy a preious week into the current week if you worked the same shifts.

Be sure to submit your timesheets no later than noon on the following Monday to avoid a delay in pay. Please let me know if you have any questions or run into any isses.

Subject: [Preplabstudents] PPG/QUL: Corks Stuck in Filled Test Tubes

Hello Everyone,

Occaisonally, we run into a situation where a cork gets stuck inside of a test tube that is filled with liquid. If this happens, we will collect the test tube in a designated bucket in the second floor window. Please do not try to remove the cork from the test tube.

Overall the plan is as follows:

Corks- trash
Emptied 4 mL test tubes- orange bucket
Liquid chemical waste- white can
Empty test tubes with corks stuck in them- orange bucket
Filled test tubes with corks stuck in them- bucket at window

Subject: [Preplabstudents] Tasks in the Prep Lab This Week

Hi Everyone,

This week 1220 will not have lab. This break allows us to get into the labs and better prepare them for the remainder of the semester. As part of this effort, we will be performing locker checks in each room to ensure each station has the equipment it is supposed to have. I know this is a laborious task, but I believe you are all up to the challenge. Please be aware that I am spot checking each room after the locker checks are completed and noting any deficiencies so that they may be corrected.

As with all tasks in the prep lab, please let one of the staff know if you have any questions or concerns.
