COVID-19 Response

   Dear all,

   By now you have likely heard the news that the university has suspended most face-to-face class for the next two weeks of the spring semester.  This has been done out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of the students, staff, and faculty.   We have an uncertain path ahead but we will find a way to navigate it to the best of our abilities.  I’m sure all of you will have many questions in the coming days.  I will be communicating with you regularly with updates.  Due to the nature of the situation and short planning time, guidance will likely be rolling out in stages.  Please be patient and read all communications thoroughly.  I will include “COVID-19” in the  subject line for all my messages on this topic.

   The Executive Dean has called a meeting of all Department Chairs for 10am this morning.  After that meeting I will be summarizing the recommendations and planning from the college.  Our department specific response will be built upon the recommendations of the College.  I encourage course instructors to start reviewing resources for electronic delivery of classes.  Please see the Provost message for some links.  Further instructions will likely be forthcoming.  As much as possible I would like a coordinated response in the department, especially for introductory classes where we have multiple sections.  Please consider your options but I ask that you not make any final decisions until we have had a chance to make some plans as a community.

    These are uncertain times, but I believe we can navigate these together.  Please remember to follow the health guidelines that have been distributed by the university, which are derived from those of the CDC and the Ohio Department of Health.
