Dear physics and astronomy community,
On behalf of our APS-IDEA team, we would like to thank everyone who attended the Call to Action earlier today. In particular we would like to extend our deep gratitude to those of you who were vulnerable and bravely shared your stories, as well as to those people who have stories to tell but who fear speaking up. We hear you and we are going to work to make things better.
In support of the Particles for Justice strike, we would also like to remind everyone that activities today should be focused specifically on anti-racism efforts and supporting Black lives both in academia and in the broader community. The APS-IDEA team will be planning additional events in the near future with a specific focus on concrete actions the department can take in support of Black students, so stay tuned.
The list of resources and action items resulting from this conversation can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_RA88xshrCsUxtvZpFdPtaHmwHGeo2v45loMWckRaqI/edit
If you have suggestions for how to improve conversations like this in the future or if you have noticed problems related to equity and inclusion in the Astronomy or Physics Departments and would like an anonymous way to bring up those problems, you may do so here: https://osu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3qICnlsSt9AmtIp
Thank you,
Kirsten Casey (she/her)
