Dear all,
I want to remind you of the staff award in the department. Please see the message below. This is an excellent way to recognize the important contributions that staff make toward the mission of our department. Please nominate individuals you think are worthy of recognition.

To all members of the OSU Physics community,
It is time to nominate one or more of our exceptional staff for the John G. Whitcomb Distinguished Staff Award. Annually, three staff persons in the Department of Physics receive this award which was established to recognize exceptional accomplishments, leadership, and service to the Department of Physics and its missions of research, teaching, and service. Initially we gave out three awards for three separate categories, but with the reduction in numbers in our shops and moving the IT folks under ASC, we will still give three awards, but not necessarily by category of staff. Additionally, we also include our lecturers and those who work for the centers housed in the PRB as eligible for nomination for these awards. Please do not submit nominations for faculty or graduate students. There are separate awards for these groups.
Any faculty member, student or staff member may make a nomination. All regular staff with at least one year of service to the Department are eligible. An individual cannot win more than once in a five year period. Please look at the list of former awardees before making your nomination (https://physics.osu.edu/john-g-whitcomb-distinguished-staff-awardees). Nominations are due no later than February 7, 2020.
The Physics Staff Advisory Committee (PSAC) is coordinating this effort.
Indicate in your nomination how the nominee exemplifies the following:
• providing excellence in service to faculty, staff and students in the Department of Physics
• developing creative solutions to problems that result in significantly more effective and efficient department operations; and
• promoting the mission and vision of the Department of Physics in unique and creative methods that enhance the working environment of the members of the Department of Physics.
In order to make this process easier on the nominators and to encourage more nominations, members of PSAC will personally complete the nomination packet by interviewing those you select to provide supporting information. Please take some time to consider nominating one of our many exceptional staff members for this award. Awardees receive a cash award and a very nice trophy, both of which will be presented at the Annual Department Picnic (April 21, 2020).
Thank you,
Ruth Leonard
