Average SEIs for courses offered by the Department

  Dear Colleagues,

    I have attached a document that shows the average SEIs (overall score) grouped by courses in the department.  This has been put together by Tom Gramila and includes the scores from fall semester.  The average scores are shown for lectures (L), recitations (R), and labs (B).  It is also separated into categories of faculty, lecturers, and GTAs.

    For those preparing Annual Reviews of assistant and associate professors, these provide more useful benchmarks than the university averages supplied on the standard SEI forms.  Keep in mind the SEI scores are limited (at best) in their ability to assess the quality of teaching.  Peer review is critically important, so if you are responsible for carrying out a peer review this semester, please take that task seriously and have your letter available to the committees by mid March.
