Chair Search Committee - Staff Engagement Period Begins

This message serves as a status update on the activities of the Chair Search Committee and marks the beginning of the period of staff engagement in the process.

Committee Members:

Chair - John Freudenstein (Chair of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology), Antonio Boveia, Linda Carpenter, Amy Connolly, Dan Gauthier, Sabine Jeschonnek, Alexandra Landsman, Phil Davids


Current Status:

One-on-one interviews have been conducted with all faculty by the committee members to gather input on key characteristics needed in next chair, key challenges, preliminary nominees, and individual willingness to be considered for nomination.

The attached document summarizes these characteristics and challenges.

The committee chair attended a previously scheduled end-of-semester Grad Student Pizza Lunch and gathered input from grad students.

The committee chair and committee members are beginning final/direct discussions with nominated faculty to gauge their individual willingness to serve.


Staff Engagement:

Staff are encouraged to review the attached document and add any additional characteristics or key challenges they feel are worthy of consideration and to nominate faculty they would like to see as chair.

Staff are encouraged to attend one of the open sessions to discuss the chair selection process in greater detail.  Sessions will be held in conference room 1136 today from 3:00 to 3:30,  Tuesday from 11:00 to 12:00, and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:00.

Staff who want an anonymous and/or confidential discussion are encouraged to contact me for a private meeting, or for additional confidentiality contact the committee chair John Freudenstein directly. (freudenstein.1 at osu.edu)

Staff should anticipate additional engagement once the field of candidates becomes more clear.

26-SEP-2019:  Nominations for Search Committee sent by Divisional Dean's Office.

29-OCT-2019:  Invitations to Committee Charge Meeting - Doodle Poll for Availability of Members

04-NOV-2019: 2nd Invitation to Committee Charge Meeting - Doodle Poll for Availability of Members

19-NOV-2019:  Committee Charge Meeting Held with Divisional Dean - Committee Membership Fully Established and Specific Actions Begin

20-NOV-2019:  Faculty Committee Members begin conducting one-on-one interviews with faculty.

06-DEC-2019:  Grad Student Pizza Lunch (existing meeting presented a chance to add agenda item for discussion with Committee Chair John Freudenstein to collect Grad Student comments on chair selection process)

09-DEC-2019 thru 09-JAN-2020:  Faculty interviews continuing, grad student feedback summarized into written form, end of semester, holiday period

10-JAN-2019:  2nd Search Committee meeting

13-JAN-2019:  Staff engagement begins
