Subject: [Astro-department] [short timescale:] CCAPP-sponsored registration for SciAccess conference
Hi all,
Pushing the frontiers of science means pushing the frontiers of knowledge, yes, but also the frontiers of participation. The benefits of science belong to everyone.
Ohio State’s Anna Voelker is leading the charge. In 2018, she completed her custom degree: a B.S. in Science Communication and Accessibility, with a minor in Astronomy and Astrophysics. Also in 2018, she was named one of two Ohio State President’s Prize winners. See https://www.osu.edu/features/2018/creating-a-universal-experience.html.
Anna is leading the organization of SciAccess, “a conference dedicated to promoting innovative approaches to equitable science access. It will explore the ways in which science and STEM as a whole can be made more inclusive, particularly for individuals with disabilities.” SciAccess (https://www.sciaccess.org) will be held at the Ohio Union June 28 and 29. See the link and the attached picture.
CCAPP strongly supports this. To encourage participation at SciAccess, we are sponsoring a limited number of registrations. You can register through a special form that does not require payment. See https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1LYK7FeOmWQ8NYG--PrhEQQBEu75UWs8W_QfxJ43_wRc/viewform?edit_requested=true. Please only register if you are confident that you will attend, as we will be charged $100 for each registration. And this offer is only for people in Physics, Astronomy, and CCAPP.
The deadline to register for the conference is Friday 17 May. But to get one of the free registrations, I encourage you to act as soon as possible (it’s easy), as we will likely have to cut off free registration well before then.
Anna is looking for volunteers to help with the conference. If you are interested, please note it on your form. There are also opportunities to host a booth to share information with participants. Or write to her (CC’d above).
I look forward to seeing you there.
Best regards,
John
